We pay traditional odds of 3:2 on ALL of our blackjack tables. A $10 blackjack pays $15 at Lakeside. Choose from single deck, double deck, or a six-deck shoe, all hand shuffled. Traditional odds and hand shuffled games can be hard to find. Lakeside blackjack is your best bet! Earn Comp Dollars While Playing! Single deck blackjack has often been looked at as the holy grail of the game because it offers players the best chance to win profits. In fact, the house edge is just 0.15% when players stick to blackjack games with a single deck. Long ago, single-deck blackjack was the standard and the only game in town.

In defense of the casinos on the above list, let me add that they may also offer a good blackjack game alongside the bad ones (e.g., Roadhouse in Tunica has a very good single-deck game with a measly 0.18% house edge, and a very ugly 5-deck, csm game with a 1.90% house edge).

In spite of the name, the Sands Regency has nothing to do with the iconic Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, or the Las Vegas Sands corporation, which bought the old Sands and tore it down to build the Venetian, and is the world’s largest casino company.

Perhaps the Sands Regency was named after the Sands in Las Vegas, which had already been operating for 15 years and was world famous in the era that the Sands Regency was built, but all these years later the Sands in Reno has developed quite a history of its own.

The Sands Regency was built in 1970 by the Cladianos family, in not the best area of downtown Reno, but in spite of the location, this new 15 story hotel and casino caught on pretty well, and in particular, attracted a lot of local gamblers, which remains the case to this day.

Business was quite good actually, which allowed for a second tower to be built in 1979, and a third one in 1983, bringing the total room count up to its current 883. So this is more than just a locals casino as they attract a fair number of out of town visitors as well.

The casino at the Sands Regency is a pretty modest sized one, at only 25,791 square feet, there’s plenty of things to play here, and the Sands Regency prides themselves on the fun their players have with them, and this is certainly a more fun casino than most.

The hotel casino has changed hands a few times over the last 46 years, and is now owned by a company called Truckee Gaming, which was created by the property’s CEO to operate this historic downtown casino hotel.

The Features of the Sands Regency

The rooms here are quite nice for an older hotel, and quite nice period actually. The color schemes are simply gorgeous, even the ones in the 377 square feet standard rooms, and while some of the suites aren’t exactly what a lot of people call suites, like for instance the 395 square foot King Suite, it does come with an upgraded bathroom with a whirlpool tub and separate shower and is a little bigger than the standard rooms at least.

They do have bigger suites here though, including the 520 square foot Dynasty Suite, the 784 square foot Luxury Suite, and the 1,150 square foot Presidential Suite.

What really makes this hotel stand out are the great deals. Now one can get plenty of deals for hotel rooms in Reno, but the packages at the Sands Regency are just fabulous.

For $50, you can get two nights’ accommodations here, along with 5 free beer and a $20 dining credit. For just $75, you can get three nights here, a bottle of champagne, a $20 food credit, and a free suite upgrade when available.

On Friday and Saturday nights, when the prices go way up at some places, the Sands keeps them reasonable, and instead of the $25 per night package it goes up to $45, but that means you can stay both Friday and Saturday night for just $90, and get the beer or champagne and the $20 meal credit to boot.

They claim this is the best hotel deal in Reno and it might be the best one anywhere period. If you are bringing a group of people of 20 or more, they promise even better deals for you.

There are 5 restaurants and 2 bars on site, which provide a good amount of choice, variety, and quality. You won’t find any four star expensive restaurants here, as all of them deliver honest to goodness food at honest to goodness prices.

The Copa Bar and Grill, open Thursday though Sunday, is famous among the locals for its wide variety of appetizing food and drinks. The Cabana Café is open daily at 6 AM and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a casual setting.

Mel’s Diner provides a feel of the classic American diner from yesteryear, 24 hours a day, with breakfast served any time of day you want it, as well as their tasty Melburger served with Melfries. Tacos Tyuana dishes out Mexican food from 7 AM to 1 AM daily.

The Sands Buffet is available for dinner starting at 4 PM and My Party members receive a special discount. The Pipeline Lounge lets you relax with your favorite drinks and enjoy sporting events on their 14 large screen TV’s. The 3rd Street Lounge also offers sporting action along with live entertainment from time to time.

The Casino at the Sands Regency

The player rewards program here is called My Party, and this is exactly what kind of atmosphere the staff here wish to create. There are 4 membership levels, Party Crasher, Life of the Party, Party Animal, and Top Dog, which you qualify for based upon how many points you earn.

All members earn comps, free slot play or cash back, and discounts at restaurants and at their gift shop. There are also invitations to special events to be had, and higher level members receive even better VIP treatment.

The Sands boasts 600 of the loosest slots in Reno, which are all easy and fun to play. There’s also a selection of table games to be enjoyed here, including single deck Blackjack with Royal Match, Roulette, Craps, and 3 Card Poker.

They also roll out Texas Holdem at their poker tables, for those in the mood to take on other players. Sports bettors are also taken care of in their William Hill branded race and sports book, and the Sands Regency also has the best bingo in town in their cozy bingo hall.

The Sands Regency is a long way away from the big Las Vegas strip resorts, or even the finest and luxurious ones in Reno, but this is still a hotel casino that has quite a bit to offer, especially in terms of value and fun for the money. It’s been a hit on the Reno scene since 1970 and isn’t slowing down at all.

Introduction

To use the basic strategy, look up your hand along the left vertical edge and the dealer's up card along the top. In both cases an A stands for ace. From top to bottom are the hard totals, soft totals, and splittable hands. There are two charts depending on whether the dealer hits or stands on soft 17.

Single Deck Blackjack Reno Nv Other basic strategy rules: Reno
  • Never take insurance or 'even money.' The house edge on insurance is 5.9%, based on one deck.
  • If there is no row for splitting (fives and tens), then look up your hand as a hard total (10 or 20).
  • If you can't split because of a limit on re-splitting, then look up your hand as a hard total.
